Karen Ulinger

Karen Ulinger, a pianist and violinist in the Oregon Rogue Valley, began classical piano studies at the age of five with Rae Klenke. She began fiddle studies at the age of nine with Nancie Koerber and, at twelve, began classical violin studies with Beth Martin. She currently studies piano with Alexander Tutunov, violin with Faina Podolnaya, and voice with Ellie Murray.
Karen is a winner of several local and national piano competitions. In 2005, she was awarded an Arts in Action scholarship from winning the national Live on Stage Performing Arts Competition. She has been awarded several scholarships to study with internationally renowned musicians such as Sherry Kloss, Alexander Tutunov, Todd Reynolds, Jonathon Glonek, Jeremy Cohen, Angela Hewitt, Mack McCray, and Kristina Foltz.
In 2003, Karen received a full scholarship to attend Southern Oregon University, and, in 2004, she received the Outstanding Freshman Award. She played violin in the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon, under the direction of Cynthia Hutton, and was an accompanist and soprano for the Concert Choir, under the direction of Fredna Grimland. In 2005, she was the Vice-President of Southern Oregon's chapter of the Music Educators National Commitee (MENC). She now teaches piano and violin at her private studio, Trails End Music Studio, accompanies, and plays first violin in a string quartet.
